Dead Heat

As per the official 2023 World Endurance Championship: Sporting Regulations:

If two or more drivers, manufacturers and/or teams finish the season with the same number of points, the higher place in the Championship shall be awarded to:

  • The holder of the greatest number of first places.

  • If the number of first places is the same, the holder of the greatest number of second places.

  • If the number of second places is the same, the holder of the greatest number of third places, and so on until a winner emerges.

  • If this procedure fails to produce a result, the driver, having achieved the best result earliest in the season will have the higher place in the Championship.

  • In case of a further tie, the criterion for breaking the tie is the best time set by each car in each race of each Championship Competition in which they have taken part.

Both of a team’s cars are considered for points scoring, based on their finishing positions, using the same scale as drivers’ points.

Dead Heat Race Finish

As per D12.4 in the the official 2023 Supercars Operation Manual:

A dead heat finish will occur when two (2) or more Cars cross the Finish Line at exactly the same time.

In the case of a dead heat the Drivers will equally share the points allocated to that place in the classification and the points for the next available place in the classification.

In the case of a dead heat where the Drivers are eligible for a prize, each Driver will receive an identical prize.

A Competition will never be re-run when a dead heat occurs.

In the event that a dead heat finish is used to decide the grid positions for a race, the grid positions will be determined in accordance with the dead heat finishing Cars best qualifying position.

Drivers’ Championship Dead Heat

As per D12.4 in the the official 2023 Supercars Operation Manual:

In the event of two (2) or more Drivers being tied on points at the end of the Championship or Series, the final Championship/Series order will be determined in accordance with each Driver’s overall placing in each race of the Championship/Series as follows:

Teams’ Points

Teams’ points are awarded based on the same scale as drivers’ points.

Only a team’s two highest finishing cars are considered for points scoring, based on their finishing positions in a race.

Single car teams are awarded three bonus points atop their points accrued from a race, to balance out the difference with multiple car teams.

In the event that the team has more than two entries, any cars other than the two highest finishing will not score points, regardless of whether their finishing position is in a points-scoring position.

For example, if two of a three team’s cars finish 1st and 2nd, and 3rd, the first car will be awarded 350 points, the second car, 320, and the third, 0, for a total of 670 team points.
